Inside the playbook
See exactly what you’re getting
These are real pages from the actual playbook — not a mockup of a product that doesn’t exist yet.

Made to be read on your phone

Sound familiar?
You know that feeling when their name shows up on your screen?
You haven’t even opened the message yet… and your stomach already knows.
You tap it. Three paragraphs.
A question about Saturday’s pickup buried somewhere between an accusation about your parenting, a dig about your new relationship, and something that happened five years ago.
You start typing.
Draft 1
DeleteToo angry.
Draft 2
DeleteToo defensive.
Draft 3
DeleteSix paragraphs long because you're correcting accusations, explaining your schedule, defending yourself, and wondering: “What if somebody else reads this later?”
And somehow one text message has hijacked your entire evening. Eventually you’re staring at that blinking cursor thinking:
“What the hell am I supposed to say to this?”
That’s exactly what this playbook is for.
You don’t need another lesson about “communicating better.”
You already know you probably shouldn’t send the angry reply.
You already know long arguments usually lead to more long arguments.
You already know you should “stay calm.”
The problem is knowing what to actually SAY while you’re angry.
That’s different.
And that’s why this isn’t just another collection of random co-parenting templates.
It’s a response system.
It helps you answer three questions:
- 1
Does this message actually need a response?
- 2
If it does, how strong should that response be?
- 3
What exactly should I say?
Here’s what that looks like in real life
Your ex sends:
“You’re selfish. You never respect anybody else’s time and apparently your schedule is the only one that matters. What time are you dropping him off tomorrow?”
Your first instinct might be:
“I’m selfish? You’re the one who’s been late three weekends in a row. I’ve changed plans for you constantly and you never appreciate anything…”
And there goes the next hour.
But what’s the actual parenting issue? What time is drop-off?
So your response can simply be:
“I’ll drop him off at 5:00 p.m.”
Done.
Ignoring the insult is not the same as ignoring the parenting issue.
That’s one of the distinctions this playbook teaches you to see immediately.
The system
Don’t just get scripts. Know which response to use.
Every major situation gives you three levels.
Standard
Calm. Short. Useful.
Use this when the issue simply needs to be handled.
- No unnecessary explanation.
- No emotional hooks.
- No invitation to turn one question into a 40-message argument.
Firm
Clear. Direct. Closed.
Use this when the same behavior keeps happening and the boundary needs to become clearer.
- What happened.
- What needs to happen next.
- What you will and won't keep discussing. Then stop.
For the Record
Facts on. Emotion off.
Use this when dates, times, amounts, agreements, or repeated patterns need to be stated clearly in writing.
- No character attacks. No guessing motives.
- No dramatic language.
- Just: what happened, when it happened, what you did, what happens next.
The rule is simple
Start Standard. Go Firm when the pattern repeats. Use For the Record when the pattern matters.
You don’t have to reinvent the right tone every single time your phone buzzes.
What are you dealing with right now?
Maybe they’re late for pickup. Again.
Maybe they’re asking you to change the schedule at the last minute.
Maybe they haven’t paid their share of a medical bill.
Maybe they suddenly “don’t remember” agreeing to an expense.
Maybe they’re trying to change the holiday schedule.
Maybe their new boyfriend or girlfriend is inserting themselves into parenting decisions.
Maybe your child came home repeating adult comments about you.
Maybe you’re being accused of parental alienation because you said no to a request.
Maybe you just got: “Fine. I’ll take you back to court.”
Maybe they’re demanding: “ANSWER ME.”
Maybe they sent eight messages at 3 A.M.
Maybe they’re rewriting something you already agreed to in writing.
Or maybe the message contains no real parenting issue at all… and you’re trying to decide whether replying will just give the argument more oxygen.
There’s a scenario for that.
One situation. Three different responses.
Let’s say they’re late for pickup again.
“It’s 7:05 and I haven’t heard from you. Please send your ETA.”
Short. Handles the current problem.
“There have been several late pickups recently without advance notice. Going forward, please let me know as soon as you know you’ll be delayed.”
Now you’re addressing the repeated pattern.
“For clarity, today’s pickup was scheduled for 6:00 p.m. As of 7:05 p.m., I have not received notice of a delay or an updated arrival time.”
Dates. Times. Facts.
No: “You’re inconsiderate.” · No: “You always do this.” · No: “You clearly don’t care.”
Same situation. Different purpose.
That’s the difference between having a pile of templates… and having a system.
24 real-world scenarios
The playbook covers 24 real-world high-conflict scenarios
Including:
Late pickups
Last-minute schedule changes
Requests for your parenting time
Ignored messages
Constantly changing pickup times
Unpaid shared expenses
Disputed expenses
Surprise bills
Holiday fights
Vacation and travel disputes
Requests for “just one exception”
Court threats
Badmouthing you to your child
Kids being used as messengers
New partners crossing boundaries
Attacks on your new relationship
Parental-alienation accusations
Attacks on your parenting
Hostile walls of text
Demands for immediate answers
Old relationship arguments
Rewriting past agreements
Circular arguments
And situations where the best response may be no response at all

Every scenario page looks like this.
The exact situation. What you want to type — and why you shouldn’t. Then your three ready-to-send options: Standard, Firm, and For the Record. Find it, copy it, change the details, send it.
The “should I respond?” system
One of the hardest parts isn’t knowing what to say. It’s knowing whether you should say anything.
The playbook gives you a simple way to separate the message into three buckets:
Action → Respond
Something actually needs to happen. Pickup. School. Medical. Money. Scheduling.
Answer it.
Record → Correct once
An important factual statement may deserve clarification.
Correct it clearly. Once. Then stop.
Noise → Don’t feed it
Insults. Sarcasm. Relationship history. Character attacks. Jealousy. Bait.
You don’t automatically owe those sentences your time.
Because a message can be 90% noise and 10% parenting issue.
They send:
“You’re impossible. You always make everything difficult. This is why nobody can deal with you. Are you still picking her up at 4:30?”
Action: “Are you still picking her up at 4:30?”
Response: “Yes. I’ll be there at 4:30.”
Noise: everything else.
Leave it.
Bonus: The Emergency Reply Vault
For when you have 10 seconds and absolutely no patience.
Sometimes you don’t need a chapter. You need one sentence. So you’ll also get 30+ rapid-response lines. Try one — tap to copy:
When you need time
“I received your message. I’ll respond by tomorrow afternoon.”
When the answer is no
“That doesn’t work for me. Let’s follow the current schedule.”
When they attack your character
“I don’t agree with that characterization.”
When they keep pushing
“I’ve already answered that and don’t have anything further to add.”
When they drag the relationship into it
“I’m not going to discuss our past relationship here. Let’s keep this focused on [child].”
When they threaten court
“Understood. I’ll continue following our current parenting arrangement.”
And sometimes… the correct response is no response.

Made to be screenshotted.
The quick cards and checklists are single pages designed to live in your phone’s camera roll — so the right answer is two taps away the moment a text comes in.
Imagine not having to figure it out from scratch every time.
Your ex texts. Instead of this…
From
45 minutes of overthinking…
- Read.
- Get angry.
- Type.
- Delete.
- Rewrite.
- Add another paragraph.
- Delete that.
- Send it to a friend asking: “Does this sound okay?”
- Rewrite again.
- Wonder whether you’re being too harsh.
- Wonder whether you’re being too soft.
To
45 seconds and done.
You do this:
- 1Find it.
- 2Pick your response level.
- 3Personalize it.
- 4Send it.
- 5Move on.
That’s the real benefit.
You’re not buying 100 sentences. You’re buying a shortcut out of the mental loop. Less rewriting. Less defending. Less explaining. Less staring at the phone wondering if you should answer. More clarity about what actually deserves your attention.
This is for you if…
You’ve ever felt your stomach drop when your ex’s name appeared on your screen.
You’ve typed a message, deleted it, and started over three times.
You’ve worried that saying too much could make things worse.
You’ve worried that saying too little could make you look uncooperative.
You’ve been pulled into arguments that had almost nothing to do with the original parenting issue.
You’ve felt like every accusation required a defense.
You’ve had your child put in the middle.
You’ve wanted to say:
“Can somebody just tell me what to say?”
That’s what this is built to do.
Where this comes from
Built from the conversations you’re already having
Built from real co-parenting forum threads, high-conflict communication research, and the BIFF method taught by family law professionals.
Real co-parenting threads
The scenarios come from the messages people actually receive — patterns pulled from real high-conflict exchanges, not invented examples.
High-conflict communication research
Built on established approaches for low-reactivity, documentation-first communication — including the gray rock principles explained inside.
The BIFF method
Brief, Informative, Friendly, Firm — the response framework taught by family law professionals. BIFF® is used with attribution in the playbook.
This isn’t about being passive.
You can still say:
No.
Hold a boundary.
Ask for reimbursement.
Correct something that isn’t true.
Refuse to discuss your private life.
Stick to the schedule.
Stop answering once the actual issue has been handled.
The difference is: you stop handing every conflict five new directions to go.
“What if my exact situation isn’t in the playbook?”
The scripts are only one part of the system.
You’ll also learn a simple formula you can adapt:
Fact + Answer + Next step
- Fact: Pickup is scheduled for 5:00.
- Answer: I can’t move it to 7:00.
- Next step: Let’s keep the existing exchange time.
“Pickup is currently scheduled for 5:00. I can’t move it to 7:00, so let’s keep the existing exchange time.”
Once you see the pattern, you don’t need a custom script for every sentence another person could possibly send.
“What if my ex still argues?”
They might.
This playbook cannot control the person on the other side of the phone. And it doesn’t pretend to.
The goal isn’t: “Make my ex finally agree with me.”
The goal is: “Handle what actually needs handling without getting dragged into everything else.”
You control what leaves your phone. That’s enough to change the entire way you experience these conversations.
“Is this legal advice?”
No.
This is a practical communication resource.
Parenting plans, court orders, legal obligations, and family-law procedures vary. The playbook does not guarantee how any judge, mediator, attorney, or evaluator would interpret a future dispute.
What it does help you practice is much simpler:
- Dates instead of insults.
- Facts instead of character judgments.
- Clear answers instead of emotional essays.
- Boundaries instead of threats.
When documentation matters: facts on. Emotion off.
“Will this be discreet on my bank statement?”
Yes.
